Francis Coquelin comments on Arsenal’s Champions League hopes
Francis Coquelin has his say about Arsenal's hopes of winning the Champions League this season
Francis Coquelin believes that Arsenal are capable of winning the Champions League this season.
The north London side have been heavily criticised for their failure to perform in Europe’s elite club competition in recent seasons.
Arsene Wenger’s men were dumped out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage for the last six years running.
However, French midfielder Coquelin believes that Arsenal have what it takes to progress through to the latter stages of the competition this term.
Coquelin was quoted as saying by Metro before Arsenal’s clash with PSG on Wednesday: “Yes, it [the loser tag] annoys me because I think that there was a policy of rebuilding here, and now we have a team of men, whereas before our team was made up of young, talented players.
“And I think that’s what is going to make the difference at crunch time.
“Winning the Champions League [this year]? Yes, it’s possible. And it’s a target.”
Coquelin and his Arsenal team-mates will now prepare for their Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners are looking to return to winning ways after their back to back 1-1 draws against Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks.
The north London side finished second in the Premier League and without a trophy last season.
