Spurs made the short trip to Stamford Bridge looking to record a first win at the west London club since 1990, when Lineker scored the winning goal in a 2-1 win.
Christian Eriksen offered the Match Of The Day host and long-suffering Tottenham supporters some hope of an unlikely win after the Denmark international broke the deadlock with a long-range strike in the 11th minute.
However, the hosts were level at half-time despite Tottenham’s dominant first-half performance after Spain international Pedro Rodriguez curled a finish past Tottenham number one Hugo Lloris.
And Victor Moses extended Chelsea’s 26-year unbeaten run against Spurs at Stamford Bridge with a close-range finish in the 51st minute.
Former Tottenham striker Lineker took to Twitter to reflect on a disappointing result as he maintains his record of being the last Spurs player to score the winner at Stamford Bridge in the league.
Once again Spurs fail to win at Stamford Bridge. Look forward to next season and another reminder of how bloody ancient I am.
