Gary Neville sends message to Man United fans ahead of Arsenal test
Gary Neville has his say about Manchester United's new manager Jose Mourinho
Gary Neville has told Manchester United fans to be patient with Jose Mourinho ahead of Saturday’s showdown with Arsenal at Old Trafford.
Mourinho has already found himself under a certain degree of pressure at Old Trafford following his appointment as Louis van Gaal’s permanent successor back in May.
The Red Devils have made a stuttering start to life under their new boss and currently trail Premier League leaders Liverpool by eight points after 11 games of the new season.
United are now preparing to welcome Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal side to Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime as they look to claim a victory over their old foes.
And former United defender Neville feels that Mourinho must be given time to prove himself at Old Trafford ahead of Saturday’s showdown.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Neville said: “I think we’re judging Jose Mourinho on a moment. You hear ridiculous things like: “Has he lost his magic?” He won the league 18 months ago, he’s one of the most successful managers of all time and he’s only young in management terms.
“If Manchester United go and win the next four matches, Mourinho will be a genius again, they’ll say, and we’re very quick these days to shoot managers, coaches, players down, particularly those who have built up enough credit to prove it over a long period of time.
“Ultimately, let him do his job, let him deliver. There’s nothing to suggest he’s not going to deliver here yet, in my mind. There’s evidence to suggest it’s going to be tough, tougher than he thought.”
Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season.
