Graeme Souness comments on Philippe Coutinho’s Liverpool injury
Graeme Souness has his say on Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho's serious looking ankle injury
Graeme Souness admits that Liverpool are going to sorely miss Philippe Coutinho after the Brazilian playmaker suffered a serious ankle injury at the weekend.
The playmaker was carried off on a stretcher in the first half of Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Sunderland in the Premier League at Anfield as the midfielder suffered a nasty-looking injury.
Coutinho has been pictured on crutches since the problem and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he is not yet sure how long the player will be sidelined for.
The Brazilian star has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most exciting players since his arrival at the club from Inter Milan in 2013 and his attacking play will be missed in the Liverpool side.
And former Liverpool man Souness has admitted that Coutinho will be a big miss for the Reds.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Souness said: “He’s arguably their best player, their most influential player.
“They’ll miss him enormously. But what I would say about ankle injuries is that when they first happen, they’re really sore and you think they’ll take forever to heal. But [sometimes] within 48 hours you’re feeling better already.
“I’m hoping it’s not as bad as the pictures would make us think. He is their number one man right now. He will be sorely missed.”
Liverpool now turn their attentions towards their Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.
