Graeme Souness delivers blunt verdict on Arsenal’s display at Man United
Graeme Souness was not particularly impressed by Arsenal's showing at Manchester United
Graeme Souness has accused Arsenal of lacking ambition after their 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Saturday.
The north London side fell behind when Juan Mata gave Jose Mourinho’s side the lead at Old Trafford in the 68th minute.
However, the Gunners were able to fight back and earn a point when Olivier Giroud came off the bench to head home late on and rescue a draw for the visitors.
Arsenal were second best for most of the game and failed to really click into gear at Old Trafford.
And former Liverpool man Souness was not particularly impressed by what he saw from Arsene Wenger’s men on Saturday.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Souness said: “I got the feeling throughout the game that Arsenal were going to be happy with a draw.
“They were lacking ambition. When you think of the results coming up to this game and the firepower they have within the team…
“They’ll be going back down south tonight really happy with themselves because they dug out a result and that always gives you a good feeling. But they didn’t put a marker down for me.
“They did not turn up at one of the big stadiums, against one of their big historical rivals and say we’re the team in form, we’re going to show you how good we are.
“They got away with the result. They’ll think it was a good point but we were all looking for them to put a marker down.”
Arsenal now turn their attentions back to Champions League affairs and their crunch clash against Paris Saint-Germain at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
