Graeme Souness: My only criticism of Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho
Graeme Souness has his say on Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho's form in recent seasons
Graeme Souness believes that Philippe Coutinho should be scoring more goals for Liverpool.
The Brazilian playmaker has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most exciting attacking talents since his arrival at Liverpool from Inter Milan in January 2013.
Coutinho has been a regular fixture in the Liverpool team this season to help Jurgen Klopp’s men move up to second place in the Premier League table and just a point behind leaders Chelsea after 13 games of the new campaign.
The playmaker is expected to be sidelined for a period after suffering an ankle injury during the 2-0 win over Sunderland last weekend.
Coutinho has scored scored five goals and made five assists for the Reds so far this season.
However, former Liverpool star Souness feels that the Brazil international should be scoring more regularly for the Merseyside outfit.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Souness said: “That would be my only criticism of him going back over the last two or three years, that he doesn’t get enough goals.
“He’s got to get into double figures every year if Liverpool are going to win the big trophies.
“He creates, he works his socks off when Liverpool don’t have the ball, and he’s so easy on the eye.
“He’s one of those players right now, who you’d pay just to go and watch him play football.”
Liverpool return to Premier League action with a trip to Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.
