Graeme Souness heaps praise on Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick
Graeme Souness has named Michael Carrick as Manchester United’s best midfielder.
The England international started his second Premier League game of the 2016-17 season on Saturday afternoon as Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford.
Carrick impressed in the heart of Jose Mourinho’s midfield alongside Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba against their bitter Premier League rivals.
Juan Mata broke the deadlock in the 69th minute before Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud levelled with less than 90 seconds remaining of normal time.
Fomrer Liverpool captain Souness heaped praise on Carrick for the 35-year-old’s performance after Saturday’s stalemate at Old Trafford.
“For me, Carrick is still the best central midfielder they have, in terms of holding. I just think he made United look good,” Souness told Sky Sports.
Mourinho took over the reins of Manchester United from Louis van Gaal in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have won one Premier League game in their last five top-flight outings.
