Harry Redknapp: Why Tottenham have advantage in title race
The former Tottenham boss talks up Mauricio Pochettino's defence
Harry Redknapp believes Tottenham Hotspur have an advantage in the Premier League title race thanks to their superior defence.
The north London side ended a four-game winless run with a thrilling 3-2 victory over West Ham United at White Hart Lane on Saturday evening.
Harry Kane scored twice in the dying embers of the game to rescue three points for Mauricio Pochettino’s side against their London rivals.
Tottenham are the only Premier League club to remain unbeaten after 12 top-flight games in the 2016-17 campaign so far.
Spurs have managed to maintain their unbeaten record despite the absence of Belgium international Toby Alderweireld.
Former Tottenham manager Redknapp believes Pochettino has the Premier League’s best defence when Alderweireld is fit.
“They’ve all got frailties especially at the back [in the title race]. There isn’t a great back four,” Redknapp told BT Sport’s Premier League tonight show.
“Tottenham have the best back four when they’re all fit. Outside of that, the rest of them have frailties.”
Tottenham are in fifth place in the Premier League table and a point adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal in the title race.
The Lilywhites will make the trip to leaders Chelsea in their next top-flight game at Stamford Bridge next Saturday.
Spurs are four points behind Chelsea after 12 Premier League games.
