Hector Bellerin sends message to Arsenal fans ahead of PSG clash
Hector Bellerin expresses his delight at signing a new contract with Arsenal
Hector Bellerin has insisted that leaving Arsenal never crossed his mind.
The Spanish full-back put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with the Gunners on Monday afternoon after months of speculation about his future.
Bellerin has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top full backs since breaking into the Arsenal first team under Arsene Wenger in recent seasons.
The 21-year-old had been touted as a possible transfer target for both Barcelona and Manchester City before he eventually committed his future to the Gunners.
However, the defender has insisted that leaving Arsenal did not cross his mind as he revealed his delight at signing a new deal at The Emirates.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website, Bellerin said: “I’m really, really happy and this club is my home right now.
“I’ve been here for more than five years now so I was really, really excited when the club told me that they wanted to extend my contract.
“I wasn’t thinking about anything else other than staying here and continuing my development here. This is where I’m happy. I’m just very grateful and pleased to have signed.
“Arsenal is not only about being a footballer, you have to be a good person to play here. That’s what everyone transmits inside the club. You represent more than just a football club.
“I’m a player who tries to be an example for everyone, not just on the pitch but off it as well.
“Now I’ve just got to keep on progressing, keep working hard to be the best player I can be, and hopefully help the team to be where its got to be, to win some silverware. That’s what everyone wants and that’s what I’m working towards.”
Arsenal are preparing to take on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night as they look to try and top their group.
The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester United at the weekend.
