Ian Wright: What really impresses me about Chelsea
The Arsenal legend has been impressed with Chelsea's transformation under Antonio Conte
Ian Wright admits he has been impressed with Chelsea’s direction under Antonio Conte.
The Blues have made a promising start to life under the Italian manager after he was named as Guus Hiddink’s permanent successor earlier this year.
The west London side won their opening three Premier League games against West Ham United, Watford and Burnley to underline their title challenge.
However, a stalemate at Swansea City was followed by successive defeats by their title rivals Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League.
Conte opted to switch to a 3-4-3 formation in a bid to resuscitate Chelsea’s stuttering campaign.
The Blues have now won seven successive Premier League games thanks to a return of 19 goals and six consecutive clean sheets since Conte’s tactical switch.
The 2015 champions had beaten Hull City, Leicester City, Manchester United, Everton, Southampton and Middlesbrough, before Saturday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham.
Speaking on The Sun Goals podcast, former Arsenal striker Wright delivered a glowing verdict on Conte’s side.
“Chelsea are quite impressive right now. Gary Cahill looks like a new player,” Wright said.
“Everyone was tacking the mick when they bought Luiz back, but he has been superb.
“They look like a team who know exactly what they’re doing and where they’re going.”
