Insider delivers latest update on Alexis Sanchez’s Arsenal future
Will Alexis Sanchez extend his Arsenal contract beyond the summer of 2018?
There is some doubt about whether Alexis Sanchez will extend his current contract at Arsenal, according to journalist John Cross.
The Chile international has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top attackers since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium from Barcelona in the summer of 2014.
Sanchez helped Arsenal win the FA Cup in his first season at the club but ended the last campaign without any silverware.
The 27-year-old is believed to have already opened talks with Arsenal about the possibility of extending his current deal beyond the summer of 2018.
However, Daily Mirror journalist Cross has claimed that there is some uncertainty about whether Sanchez is prepared to commit his future to the Gunners.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Cross said: “I think there is some doubt over whether Sanchez stays or goes.
“He’s on £130,000-a-week at the moment and wants in excess of £200,000-a-week, and also in the mix I understand he wants some sort of buy-out clause, which would give him the ability to get away if the right move comes along.
“Ozil is stealing the limelight and I think he will definitely get in excess of £200,000-a-week. Whether Sanchez does too, we will see.
“Ozil already earns slightly more than Sanchez, which is an unusual situation because normally the superstar striker is the biggest earner at the club.
“Sanchez is happy in London as I understand it, but I think he is a little bit more restless than Ozil. I’m not saying he’s desperate to get away, but Arsenal have more of a battle on their hands to keep Sanchez.”
Arsenal are currently gearing up for their crunch Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon as they look to return to winning ways following their 1-1 draw with Tottenham earlier in the month.
