Jamie Carragher criticises Arsene Wenger for ‘careless’ Arsenal mistake
Jamie Carragher says Arsene Wenger was ill-prepared for the new season with Arsenal
Jamie Carragher has claimed that Arsene Wenger was “careless” not to have his team better prepared to face Liverpool at The Emirates on the opening weekend of the season.
The north London side were without Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud for their first game of the campaign at The Emirates following the duo’s involvement in Euro 2016.
Arsenal were also without defender Per Mertesacker due to injury and Wenger watched his team slump to a disappointing 4-3 loss to Jurgen Klopp’s side at The Emirates.
However, Liverpool legend Carragher feels that Wenger was not well enough prepared for the game and should have done better.
Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Carragher said: “How big might the five points they dropped against Liverpool and Leicester in the first games be come May? They were not ready for the start of the campaign and, again, Wenger conducted his transfer business late.
“He was without Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud on the opening day against Liverpool, but should have known France and Germany would go a long way at Euro 2016. It was careless not to be prepared.”
Arsenal finished second in the Premier League and without a trophy last season.
