Jamie Carragher drops worrying hint over Philippe Coutinho’s Liverpool future
The Liverpool legend has suggested that Jurgen Klopp could lose Philippe Coutinho
Jamie Carragher has warned Liverpool to prepare for the possibility of losing Philippe Coutinho to a European superpower in the future.
The Brazil international has been in scintillating form for the Merseyside outfit in the 2016-17 season so far as the Liverpool number 10 continues to thrive under Jurgen Klopp.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has been linked with a move to La Liga giants Barcelona in recent weeks after scoring five times and making five assists in 11 Premier League games before the international break.
Carragher played with Coutinho for six months following the South American’s £8.5m switch to Anfield from Serie A side Inter Milan in January 2013 before the centre-half retired at the end of the 2013-14 campaign.
However, the former Liverpool defender appeared to hint that Coutinho could leave the 18-time English champions in the future given his current form.
“Liverpool have found themselves in a similar position to Everton in recent years,” Carragher wrote in his Daily Mail column.
“As Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano and Luis Suarez prove, once a superpower shows interest, the end result is a move.
“That is how football works and that is why there is a slight concern Philippe Coutinho might be next.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season after Klopp was appointed as Rodgers’ successor back in October.
The Reds haven’t won the Premier League table since the division was established in 1992.
