Jamie Carragher: What will frustrate Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool
The Liverpool legend explains why Jurgen Klopp will be disappointed
Jamie Carragher believes Jurgen Klopp will be bitterly disappointed that his Liverpool players couldn’t capitalise on their second-half chances at Southampton following Saturday’s goalless draw at St Mary’s.
The Reds failed to record their third successive Premier League victory despite having a staggering 15 attempts on Fraser Forster’s goal on the south coast.
The Merseyside outfit have scored 30 times in 12 Premier League games, which is more than any other top-flight side despite their second goalless stalemate of the 2016-17 season so far.
Former Schalke 04 defender Joel Matip wasted two opportunities to break the deadlock from set-pieces in the second half, while Roberto Firmino miscued from close range.
Ex Liverpool defender Carragher spoke of the Merseyside outfit’s frustrating surrounding their inept attacking performance.
“Looking at how dominant they were, they will be disappointed,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“Southampton is always a tough game, they got a beating against Chelsea last time out at home…but it’s not an easy place to come to.
“But with the chances Liverpool had and the improved second-half performance, they will be disappointed.”
Liverpool have already beaten title rivals Arsenal and Chelsea on the road in the Premier League title race this season.
The Merseyside club haven’t won the Premier League title but finished as runners-up in 2009 and 2014.
Liverpool will host Sunderland in their next Premier League game at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
