Jamie Carragher: Why Pep Guardiola will be desperate to get one over Chelsea
The Liverpool legend delivers his verdict on the tactical battle between Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola
Jamie Carragher believes Pep Guardiola will be desperate to beat Chelsea when Antonio Conte’s side make the trip to Manchester City on Saturday.
The Citizens will host the Premier League leaders in the day’s early kick-off at the Etihad Stadium as City look to hoist themselves above Chelsea and into top spot.
The Eastlands out are in third place and a point behind the west London outfit after Chelsea’s incredible unbeaten run under their new manager Conte since September.
Chelsea have won their last seven Premier League games after keeping six clean sheets in seven games to help them climb to the top of the table ahead of City and Liverpool.
The Blues have beaten Hull City, Leicester City, Manchester United, Southampton, Everton, Middlesbrough and Tottenham Hotspur since their last league defeat – a 3-0 loss at Arsenal.
Former Liverpool legend Carragher believes Guardiola will relish the challenge of setting up his City side to disrupt Conte’s successful 3-4-3 formation.
“It’s a big test as Chelsea are the in-form team at this moment, there’s no doubt about that but they’re going to the Etihad and City are very strong at home,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“I think Pep Guardiola will be desperate to get one over on Chelsea and the system and set-up that they are using because he’s been the manager who, when he has come in, we’ve been talking about systems and doing different things.”
Chelsea won the Premier League title in 2015.
