Jamie Redknapp makes claim about Chelsea squad under Antonio Conte
Jamie Redknapp believes that the Chelsea players are finally buying into their new manager's philosophy at Stamford Bridge
Jamie Redknapp believes that Chelsea’s players are buying into Antonio Conte’s philosophy following their 2-0 win over Southampton on Sunday.
The Blues cruised to their fourth straight Premier League win thanks to goals from Eden Hazard and Diego Costa on the south coast.
Chelsea had come in for criticism at the start of the season following losses agains the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool earlier in the campaign.
However, the west London side now look like they are adapting to the Italian’s philosophy and they headed to St Mary’s after having thrashed Manchester United 4-0 at Stamford Bridge.
And Redknapp believes that the work-rate of the Blues players shows that they are getting used to life under their new manager in west London.
Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “You have only got to look at how much ground Chelsea’s players covered on Sunday to see how they are buying into Antonio Conte’s philosophy.
“They ran 3.5 miles further than Southampton while four players — Marcos Alonso, Nemanja Matic, N’Golo Kante and Eden Hazard — ran more than any member of Claude Puel’s team. Conte has instilled so much hunger in this side — the likes of Hazard and Diego Costa look fitter and sharper than last season.
“Neither Manchester United nor Southampton could knock Chelsea off their stride and it will take a team who are prepared to get on the front foot against them to do so.”
Chelsea finished 10th and without a trophy last season.
The Blues host Everton at Stamford Bridge in their next game in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
