Jamie Redknapp: What Granit Xhaka must do to become Arsenal success
The former Liverpool captain delivers his verdict on Arsenal summer signing Granit Xhaka
Jamie Redknapp has challenged Arsenal signing Granit Xhaka to stamp his authority on Premier League games.
The Gunners signed the promising Switzerland international in a £33m deal from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer transfer window.
Xhaka has only started six of Arsenal’s 13 Premier League games in the 2016-17 season so far despite injuries to Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey in the campaign so far.
The Swiss midfielder scored his first Premier League goal in a 4-1 win against relegation candidates Hull City in September.
But Xhaka started on the bench for Arsenal’s stalemates with Premier League rivals Manchester United and Champions League opponents Paris Saint-Germain in the past week.
And although the £33m signing was restored to Wenger’s starting line-up as Arsenal eased to a 3-1 win against Bournemouth on Sunday, Redknapp believes Xhaka has work to do at the north London club.
“He has shown glimpses,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“He’s a nice player and obviously there is a nasty streak to him as well. He’s got to stamp his authority and show exactly what he is made of.”
