Jordan Henderson: Liverpool think world of Jurgen Klopp’s signing
The Liverpool captain reveals that Georginio Wijnaldum has plenty of admirers in the Reds squad
The Liverpool squad think the world of Jurgen Klopp’s summer signing Georginio Wijnaldum, according to Jordan Henderson.
The Netherlands international was the second most-expensive player of the Liverpool manager’s summer acquisitions after the versatile midfielder completed a £25m switch to Anfield from relegated Newcastle United.
The Dutch star scored 11 times in 38 Premier League games in the 2015-16 season as he successfully made the transition from Eredivisie to the English top flight.
Wijnaldum started Liverpool’s opening six Premier League games before he picked up a hamstring injury during international duty in October and lost his starting spot to Emre Can.
However, the talented playmaker scored his first Liverpool goal from the bench as he netted the Merseyside outfit’s sixth goal in a 6-1 victory over Watford in October.
Speaking to This is Anfield – as quoted by Liverpool’s website, Henderson delivered a glowing verdict on Klopp’s £25m summer signing.
“It would be wrong not to mention Gini Wijnaldum, who celebrated his 26th birthday before we played Southampton,” said Henderson.
The Liverpool captain continued: “I have to say what a great addition he has been to this club.
“He lights up the room when he walks in and his performances on the pitch speak for themselves. Everyone thinks the world of Gini and it’s great to see he has settled so quickly and already feels right at home in Liverpool.”
Liverpool have already beaten rivals Arsenal and Chelsea on the road this season to underline their status as title contenders.
