Jose Mourinho comments on Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Man United display
The Manchester United manager heaps praise on Zlatan Ibrahimovic after Sunday's 3-1 win at Swansea City
Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the striker scored twice in Manchester United’s 3-1 win against Swansea City on Sunday.
The 35-year-old Swedish centre-forward had failed to find the back of the net in six Premier League games ahead of their trip to the Liberty Stadium.
Ibrahimovic’s fellow summer signing Paul Pogba made the breakthrough in the first half in south Wales with a stunning volley to score his second Premier League goal.
However, the Swedish legend didn’t require long to get involved in the goal-scoring action as he doubled the visitors’ lead in the 21st minute thanks to Wayne Rooney’s assist.
The former AC Milan and Barcelona striker made it 3-0 to Mourinho’s side in the 33rd minute to score his sixth Premier League goal of the 2016-17 season so far.
Ibrahimovic scored his 400th club goal during the Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday afternoon to help Manchester United end a four-game winless run in the top flight.
Speaking at his post-match media conference on Sunday evening, Mourinho lavished praise on the veteran striker.
“I didn’t know [that Zlatan had scored 400 club goals]. I just know that he is a great player for the team,” said Mourinho.
“He scored and he didn’t score in the past three or four or five matches but that doesn’t matter at all because there is one thing having a striker who scores goals and does nothing else.
“It’s another thing to have a striker that doesn’t score goals, but does everything else and during this period where he was not scoring goals he did everything else for the team. I’m happy that he is back to scoring goals.”
