Jose Mourinho makes admission about Anthony Martial ahead of Man United v West Ham

Jose Mourinho says Anthony Martial needs time to adapt to life under his management at Manchester United

Jose Mourinho has admitted that Anthony Martial is yet to click into gear for Manchester United this season.

The French striker earned plenty of praise for his strong performances for the Red Devils last season after his arrival at the club from Monaco under Louis van Gaal.

However, the forward has found his first-team opportunities somewhat restricted under his new manager this term and has only made five Premier League starts for the Red Devils.

Indeed, Martial has only scored two goals in all competitions for Mourinho’s men as he tries to force his way back into the starting line-up.

Mourinho is confident that Martial will rediscover his best form for the Red Devils in the coming weeks and months but conceded that he was perhaps more comfortably with the club’s playing style under Van Gaal.

Mourinho is quoted as saying by United’s website: “First of all, the way the team played last season was very different – I’m not saying better or worse, just different.

“Probably Anthony was feeling more comfortable playing that way, at that intensity, at that rhythm of the ball – possession and ball circulation. So he probably needs some time.”
