Jose Mourinho provides Man United transfer update on Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The Manchester United manager confirms Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be staying for another season
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will remain at Manchester United until the end of the 2017-18 season.
The Swedish centre-forward completed a free transfer to the Red Devils from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the summer window as he became the second signing of Mourinho’s Old Trafford reign.
Ibrahimovic, who has previously played in Italy, Spain and France, scored four times in his opening three games in all competitions to make a brilliant start to life at the 20-time English champions.
The 35-year-old has gone on to net six goals in 11 Premier League appearances, including his double in Manchester United’s 3-1 win against Swansea City in his last top-flight appearance.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference on Wednesday ahead of Manchester United’s clash against Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday night, Mourinho addressed Ibrahimovic’s long-term future at Old Trafford.
“Zlatan’s situation is simple: he has a one-plus-one contract with the club and we will execute the option of a second season,” Mourinho told his pre-match media conference.
“He’s happy, committed and loving his life as a football player at United. This is probably the last big challenge of his wonderful career, so it is perfect for him to be here for the next 18 months and then he owns the decision of his future.”
Ibrahimovic has won Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1 amongst many other domestic titles, but the powerful striker has never lifted the Champions League trophy.
