Jose Mourinho told to start this player for Man United v Arsenal
Ray Wilkins wants to see Michael Carrick start for Manchester United against Arsenal this weekend
Ray Wilkins has urged Jose Mourinho to start Michael Carrick for Manchester United in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Arsenal.
The Red Devils are preparing to welcome Arsene Wenger’s men to Old Trafford as Mourinho’s men look to make it back to back wins in the Premier League.
Arsenal head into the game looking to return to winning ways after the disappointment of their 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur before the international break.
Veteran midfielder Carrick has been handed a watching brief for most of this season and has not featured regularly under new boss Mourinho at United.
However, with Mourinho still tinkering and trying to discover his best team at Old Trafford, former Red Devils star Wilkins believes that Carrick should be given a chance against the Gunners.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Wilkins said: “I don’t think United have controlled many games.
“I think with Carrick in the side that’s the only option they have to get some semblance of control and a bit of serenity.
“He sees the game so well, he can hit long passes and if United are going to push up and attack Arsenal you’re going to need that guy, with all his knowledge, to stop counter-attacks.
“I think Michael will have to play for United to have a good chance.”
Manchester United head into Saturday’s game eight points behind leaders Liverpool and six adrift Arsenal.
