Juan Mata names positives Man United can take from Arsenal draw
The Manchester United midfielder was pleased with some aspects of the Red Devils' performance against Arsenal
Juan Mata attempted to look to the positives from Manchester United’s performance at Old Trafford on Saturday despite drawing 1-1 with Arsenal.
The Spain international appeared to have sealed three points for Jose Mourinho’s side after his 69th-minute opener in the day’s early kick-off.
However, Arsenal substitute Olivier Giroud netted an equaliser with less than 90 seconds remaining to salvage a point for the visitors.
The Red Devils are in sixth place but lost further ground on Premier League leaders Chelsea after the west London side moved nine points clear of their former manager’s side thanks to a 1-0 win at Middlesbrough on Sunday.
While the Spanish playmaker admitted the stalemate with Arsenal left a bitter taste in the mouth, Mata was keen to stress the many positives that the 20-time English champions could take from the 0-0 draw.
“It could have been a great weekend and it leaves a bad taste, but we must be positive,” Mata wrote in his personal blog.
“The way we played, the motivation, ambition and competitiveness that we showed, or the team’s personality are enough reasons to believe that sooner or later we are going to get the reward that we deserved.”
Manchester United will host Eredivisie side Feyenoord in their next Europa League game at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
The Red Devils will take on Slaven Bilic’s struggling West Ham United side in their next Premier League fixture at home next Sunday.
