Jurgen Klopp comments on Man United’s situation under Jose Mourinho
Jurgen Klopp does not feel that Liverpool have an advantage being out of Europe this season
Jurgen Klopp insists that Liverpool do not have an advantage not being in Europe this season – but says Manchester United could benefit from an early Europa League exit.
Manchester United’s hopes of reaching the last 32 of Europe’s second tier club competition were left dangling by a thread after Jose Mourinho’s men were beaten 2-1 by Fenerbahce in Turkey on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, Klopp’s Liverpool side do not have the distraction of European football this season after their eight-placed finish in the top flight last season.
Klopp insists that he does not feel that a lack of European football has benefitted his side in the Premier League title race this season.
But the Liverpool boss feels that an early exit from the Europa League for Manchester United could benefit the Red Devils in the new year.
Klopp is quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “What is an advantage? It’s only our situation, nothing else.
“When I was in Europe, I never thought ‘this is too much’. We just have to show that we use the extra time for training.
“Do you ask Antonio Conte about this every week? Maybe Man United will have it from January. Maybe ask them. Maybe it’s not a positive thing [losing] and then from January, it’s very positive not being in Europe any more.”
Liverpool are preparing to host Watford in the Premier League on Sunday, while Manchester United are gearing up for their trip to Swansea City.
