Kevin Kilbane: Chelsea duo bringing out the best in Victor Moses
The Irish defender examines Victor Moses' rise and rise at Chelsea
N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic are bringing out the best in Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses, according to Kevin Kilbane.
The Blues eased to a 1-0 win against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Sunday evening thanks to Diego Costa’s 41st-minute winner.
Moses was named the man of the match after the Nigeria international produced another impressive performance in Antonio Conte’s side.
The Chelsea man has kick-started his stalling Blues career under Conte after the Italian switched to a 3-4-3 formation following a 3-0 loss at Arsenal.
The African has played a key role in helping Chelsea win their last six Premier League games against Hull City, Leicester City, Manchester United, Southampton and Everton.
Speaking on Match Of The Day 2, former Everton and Republic of Ireland full-back Kilbane explained why Moses is thriving in Conte’s current set-up at Chelsea.
“It helps Moses that he has got a really stable set-up behind him thanks to N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic,” Kilbane said.
“Moses knows at least one of them will drop in too, so Chelsea’s three-man defence is rarely left without cover even if he does not get back.
“So he can really bomb forward as much as he likes, especially in games like Sunday where his side were on top for long spells.”
Moses has been on loan at Liverpool, Stoke City and West Ham since swapping Wigan Athletic for Chelsea in 2012.
The Blues will host Tottenham in their next Premier League game next Saturday.
