Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Southampton cup clash
Arsene Wenger has delivered the latest team news ahead of Arsenal's clash with Southampton in the EFL Cup on Wednesday
Arsene Wenger has revealed that Lucas Perez is back available in his Arsenal squad for Wednesday’s EFL Cup showdown with Southampton at The Emirates.
The striker has been missing since the 2-0 win over Reading in the fourth round of the tournament last month due to an ankle injury.
However, the Spanish forward will be back in the squad for the visit of the Saints in midweek.
In quotes distributed by Arsenal’s media team, Wenger said: “Lucas is in the squad for Wednesday’s match.”
The Arsenal boss also confirmed that Olivier Giroud has suffered a minor groin problem after the striker came off the bench during Sunday’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth at The Emirates.
Meanwhile, right-back Mathieu Debuchy is set to undergo a scan to determine the seriousness of his hamstring injury.
Wenger continued: “Mathieu Debuchy is out [hamstring] and Olivier Giroud [groin] has a slight problem – he’s out for tomorrow. Mathieu has a scan today, so we don’t have the full results yet.”
Arsenal head into the game on the back of their 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on Sunday as Wenger’s men secured the three points to get back to winning ways in the top flight.
The Gunners are three points off leaders Chelsea after 13 games.
