Liverpool legend: This Tottenham star shadow of former self
The Liverpool legend is critical of Tottenham star Christian Eriksen
Dietmar Hamann believes Christian Eriksen is really struggling at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Denmark international was powerless to prevent the north London side being eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday night as Mauricio Pochettino’s side lost 2-1 to Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco.
Eriksen played a vital role in Tottenham’s Premier League title bid last term as Spurs challenged champions Leicester City throughout the second half of the 2015-16 campaign.
The former Ajax midfielder scored six times and made 13 assists in 35 Premier League appearances last season to prove a key component in Pochettino’s improving Tottenham side.
However, Eriksen has made just three assists in 12 Premier League appearances in the current campaign as Spurs struggle to keep pace with their title rivals.
Ex Liverpool midfielder Hamann hasn’t been impressed with Eriksen’s ineffective performances in the Tottenham line-up.
“Christian Eriksen has been really out of form and looks a shadow of his former self, and in that creative department they have looked poor. Yet Eriksen will play, because there is no one else there. There’s no one to challenge him for his spot, no one to push him,” Hamann wrote in his Paddy Power blog.
Tottenham drew four successive Premier League games before a 3-2 win against West Ham United at White Hart Lane.
Pochettino signed five players in the summer transfer window as the Tottenham manager looked to turn his squad in title winners.
