Liverpool legend: What Jordan Henderson brings to Jurgen Klopp’s team
Danny Murphy singles out Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson for special praise
Danny Murphy says Jordan Henderson brings athleticism and leadership to the Liverpool side.
The England international has been in superb form for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign despite his positional switch.
Henderson is playing in a deep-lying midfield role in the Liverpool team this term despite previously having more of a free role under Brendan Rodgers.
The Reds skipper, who took over the captain’s armband from Steven Gerrard in 2015, has scored one goal and has made three assists in 13 Premier League appearances this term.
Former Liverpool midfielder Murphy, who won the FA Cup, Uefa Cup and League Cup with the Anfield outfit in 2001, highlighted Henderson’s influential performances in Klopp’s first-team this season.
“What he gives the midfield is tremendous athleticism and leadership. His passing is getting better all the time and he can open up teams when he is confident. He was probably the best player on the pitch,” Murphy told Match Of The Day.
Liverpool are in second place in the Premier League table and a point behind leaders Chelsea after 13 Premier League games.
Liverpool will make the long trip to Bournemouth in their next Premier League game at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
