Joel Matip lifts the lid on his strong start to life at Liverpool this season

Joel Matip says he has settled so quickly into life at Liverpool because of his new team-mates.

The defender has been a regular fixture in the starting line-up for the Reds so far this season in what is Jurgen Klopp’s first full campaign in charge at Anfield.

The 25-year-old has scored one goal in 10 Premier League games for the Reds so far this term to help Klopp’s men challenge for the Premier League title.

The Cameroon international has looked to slot seamlessly into Liverpool’s back four as Klopp’s side eye a top-four finish in the Premier League.

And Matip has revealed how he has found it easy to settle into life at Anfield following his switch form Schalke.

Speaking in an interview with The Liverpool Echo, Matip said: “Why did I settle so quickly? My team-mates helped me from the first day I was here. That support meant I could play my game.

“There are a lot of nice guys in the squad. We laugh a lot and hopefully we will achieve a lot.

“I’m also playing for a great coach who improves every player he works with. I still think I can improve and I know I will get better.”

Liverpool finished eighth in the Premier League table and without a trophy last season despite reaching the Europa League and League Cup finals under Klopp last term.
