Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Liverpool v Sunderland
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Liverpool to claim a 2-0 win over Sunderland in the Premier League at Anfield
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Liverpool to claim a 2-0 win over Sunderland in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds head into the game looking to return to winning ways after their goalless draw against Southampton in the Premier League last weekend.
Liverpool have earned plenty of praise for their free-flowing attacking displays this season and head into this weekend’s round of fixtures trailing leader Chelsea by just a point.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have also had the luxury of a free week to prepare for the game following their lack of European football this season.
And former Liverpool man Lawrenson is fully expecting to see the Reds beat the Black Cats at Anfield this weekend.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “Sunderland’s results have picked up of late but their injury problems keep on coming – Black Cats defender Paddy McNair is the latest victim, and he is out for the rest of the season.
“I think their revival ends this weekend, though. David Moyes’ side will put up a fight at Anfield, but it is hard to see them getting anything there.
“Yes, Southampton stopped the Reds from scoring last weekend, but they still had enough chances to win more than one game, and they will open Sunderland up too.”
Liverpool finished eighth and without a trophy last season despite reaching the Europa League and League Cup finals under Klopp.
The Reds are aiming to break back into the top four this term.
