Man United boss issues warnings to Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay
Jose Mourinho admits that his Manchester United fringe players will have to prove their worths to him
Jose Mourinho has warned Manchester United’s fringe players that they will have to prove themselves as worthy of a starting spot when they get their chances to impress.
The likes of Anthony Martial, Memphis Depay and Jesse Lingard have not been regular fixtures in the Manchester United first team this season as they compete for a place in the starting line-up.
Lingard came off the bench to score United’s fourth goal in their 4-0 win over Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Martial and Depay have also found their first-team opportunities somewhat restricted under new boss Mourinho at Old Trafford.
And Mourinho has warned his players that they will only have a limited time to impress before another star steps in to take their place.
Mourinho is quoted as saying by United’s website: “We have Mkhitaryan, Lingard, Depay, Mata, Rashford and Martial – these are the positions where we have more options.
“You have one opportunity, maybe two or three. If you don’t bite, somebody comes and takes the meat.”
Manchester United are currently preparing to host West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
