Man United legend: What Liverpool need to win Premier League title
Diego Forlan discusses Liverpool's prospects in the Premier League title race
Diego Forlan believes Liverpool need to have luck with injuries to win the Premier League title this season.
The Reds are in second place in the table and a point adrift of leaders Chelsea after Jurgen Klopp’s side played out a goalless draw with Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon.
Liverpool have already beaten title rivals Arsenal and Chelsea on the road this season, while the Merseyside outfit were 4-1 winners against defending champions Leicester City.
Klopp led Liverpool to an eighth-place finish in the Premier League table last season after the former Borussia Dortmund manager took over the reins back in October 2015.
Former Manchester United striker Forlan, who had a good record against Liverpool during his Premier League career, issued his backing for Klopp’s side in the title race.
“Liverpool have not won the league since 1990, but after Leicester City won the title last season, I see no reason why another side not used to winning it cannot do the same,” Forlan told The Nacional.
“Liverpool just need to keep going and have luck with injuries. Having no European football helps, and their players have gelled together well. They do not have a player in the class of Luis Suarez, but Philippe Coutinho is very good.”
Liverpool signed seven players in the summer transfer window as Klopp looked to build a Reds side capable of launching a top-four challenge.
