Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Man United v West Ham
Manchester United host West Ham in the Premier League at Old Trafford this weekend
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Manchester United to claim a 2-1 victory over West Ham in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils earned plenty of praise for their performance as they secured a 4-0 win over Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday night.
However, Jose Mourinho’s men are aiming to return to winning ways in the Premier League this weekend after they were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Arsenal last weekend at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have struggled to find consistent form under their new manager Mourinho and headed into this weekend’s round of Premier League fixtures trailing leaders Chelsea by nine points.
But former Liverpool man Lawrenson is fully expecting to see the Red Devils claim victory at Old Trafford this weekend.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “West Ham caved in late on at White Hart Lane last weekend, and they are just not as good defensively as they were last season.
“Manchester United have issues too, especially in attack, but although they might make hard work of it, I think they will find a way through.
“There continues to be off-field distractions at Old Trafford – like the talk about Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract for example – and some of what Jose Mourinho is saying about the whole situation strikes me as odd.
“I think, ultimately, he is doing it because he does not think United will make the top four. I do think they will win on Sunday, though.”
Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season before he was sacked and replaced by Mourinho.
