Marcos Alonso issues warning to title rivals over Chelsea momentum
The Chelsea defender was thrilled with the west London side's 1-0 win against Middlesbrough on Sunday afternoon
Marcos Alonso believes Chelsea have managed to maintain their momentum despite the interuption of the international break.
The Blues eased to a 1-0 win against Middlesbrough on Sunday afternoon despite eight of their starting XI returning from international duty.
Diego Costa scored the winner in the 41st minute to take his tally to 10 Premier League goals in the 2016-17 season after just 12 games.
Chelsea also continued their impressive defensive record after collecting a sixth successive clean sheet at the Riverside Stadium.
Alonso has helped Chelsea record six successive Premier League victories since coming into Conte’s first XI after a 3-0 loss at Arsenal.
And the Spanish defender was thrilled with the west London side’s ruthless performance at Boro in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
“After the international break it was important to play with the right concentration and I think the team did brilliantly to get through the game 100 per cent focused,’ said our left wing-back,” Alonso told Chelsea’s website.
“It’s two weeks since our last game and we needed to get that momentum back. While the game was going on we improved and we ended up playing good football.
“It’s working very well, I have to run a lot but we are not conceding and we’re creating lots of chances. I’m very happy to be helping the team and to be winning. We have to keep going like this.”
Chelsea have beaten Hull City, Leicester City, Manchester United, Southampton, Everton and Middlesbrough in their last six Premier League games.
Alonso moved to the Blues in a £17m deal from Serie A side Fiorentina in the summer transfer window.
