Matt Le Tissier admits surprise over Jose Mourinho and Man United signing
The Southampton legend is surprised Jose Mourinho has confirmed Zlatan Ibrahimovic's stay so early into the season
Matt Le Tissier has admitted that he was surprised Jose Mourinho decided to announce that Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be staying at Manchester United for another season on Wednesday.
The Red Devils boss confirmed the 35-year-old centre-forward would remain at Old Trafford until the end of the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.
Ibrahimovic completed a free transfer to Manchester United from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window as he became the second signing of the Mourinho era.
The former Sweden captain scored four times in his opening three competitive games but Ibrahimovic ended a six-game goal drought with his brace in a 3-1 win at Swansea City before November’s international break.
Ibrahimovic has scored six times in 11 Premier League appearances despite the Red Devils’ well-documented struggles.
Former Southampton legend Le Tissier explained why he was surprised by the timing of Mourinho’s announcement after 12 games of the current Premier League campaign.
“I’m surprised he’s made that decision so early in the season,” Le Tissier told Sky Sports.
“If I was in that position I would have wanted to have seen a few more months of him and see how he handles playing through the winter.
“He has done alright since he’s arrived. He hasn’t been spectacular, but he’s clearly impressed Jose with his fitness and attitude.”
