The 17-year-old came off the bench in the 67th minute and scored Liverpool’s second goal after Divock Origi had broken the deadlock in the 75th minute.

At 17 years and 45 days old, Woodburn took Owen’s record to become the club’s youngest goal-scorer as he helped Jurgen Klopp’s men beat Leeds and reach the semi-finals of the EFL Cup at Anfield.

Former Liverpool striker Owen was quick to congratulate the youngster for his goal as the Reds secured victory in front of their home fans.

Ex-Reds forward Owen tweeted:

Liverpool will now turn their attentions back to the Premier League and their trip to Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds are currently second in the table and a point behind leaders Chelsea after 13 games of the new season.
