Owen Hargreaves: This is Tottenham’s biggest issue
The former Manchester City and Manchester United midfielder reveals Tottenham Hotspur's big problem
Owen Hargreaves says Mauricio Pochettino needs his Tottenham Hotspur midfield to chip in with more goals.
The north London side lost 1-0 to Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday night as Spurs continued to struggle in the absence of England striker Harry Kane.
Tottenham failed to win a Premier League game in October after a 2-0 victory over Premier League leaders Manchester City at White Hart Lane at the start of the month.
Son Heung-min finished October as Tottenham’s leading goal-scorer with four goals, while Dele Alli netted three times in the north London side’s opening 10 Premier League games.
Argentina international Erik Lamela and summer signing Victor Wanyama have scored one goal in the Premier League this term, but Danish midfielder Chistian Eriksen and £30m arrival Moussa Sissoko are still waiting to open their accounts for the season.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s north London derby at the Emirates Stadium, Hargreaves was critical of Tottenham’s midfield for not chipping in with more goals during Kane’s absence.
“They need more goals from midfield – that’s the biggest issue,” Hargreaves told BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show.
“They need goals from Eriksen and Dembele. Lamela needs to chip in as well. Son has been a player that has chipped in for them.”
Kane scored from the penalty spot on his return to action in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal.
