Pat Nevin offers Arsene Wenger advice over Arsenal strikers
The Chelsea legend says he would start Olivier Giroud up front and play Alexis Sanchez on the winger for Arsenal
Pat Nevin believes Arsene Wenger should start Olivier Giroud up front and play Alexis Sanchez on the wing in his Arsenal team.
The Chile international has occupied a lone forward role in Wenger’s starting line-up for much of the 2016-17 season so far.
The Arsenal manager’s tactical change has paid dividends with Sanchez scoring six times and making three assists in 12 Premier League appearances.
However, the South American is going through a small goal drought after failing to net in his last three games in all competitions.
Giroud, meanwhile, has scored three times in six substitute appearances, while he scored in a 3-2 victory over Ludogorets in the Champions League.
Former Chelsea midfielder Nevin explained why he would start with Giroud in a centre-forward role and shift Sanchez out to the wing.
“Who am I to tell Arsene Wenger what to do but I’d still be playing Alexis Sanchez wide and Olivier Giroud up front,” Nevin told Newstalk.
“A lot of Arsenal fans would disagree with that. Alexis Sanchez will come in from that area and score you a bunch of goals. Have a look at Giroud’s numbers – they’re still exceptional.”
Arsenal are in fourth place in the Premier League table and three points behind leaders Chelsea.
The Gunners will host Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side at The Emirates in their next Premier League game.
