Pat Nevin states prediction about Chelsea star ahead of Tottenham clash
Pat Nevin has a warning for Chelsea ahead of their clash with Tottenham on Saturday...
Pat Nevin believes that Thibaut Courtois is likely to have to prove his worth against Tottenham for Chelsea this weekend.
The Blues head into Saturday’s showdown at Stamford Bridge in fine form after having moved to the top of the Premier League table on Sunday thanks to their 1-0 win over Middlesbrough.
Antonio Conte’s side have earned plenty of praise for their performances in recent weeks, having brushed aside the likes of Everton and Manchester United on their way to the top of the pile.
However, Chelsea legend Nevin is expecting the Blues to have a stern examination at the hands of Tottenham in Saturday’s late kick-off at Stamford Bridge.
Writing in his column for Chelsea’s website, Nevin said: “This weekend at home I expect to experience one of the best atmospheres at any game of the season.
“This is important of course because it lifts every single player just that little bit more and that might be enough to produce the result. I certainly thought it played a big part in Eden Hazard getting that late equaliser last season.
“I will not however be making any bold predictions this early in the week other than I expect Thibaut Courtois might finally get something to do at last.
“I think it has been something like a measly 10 shots on his goal that the defence have allowed in the last six games and it led to me stifling a snigger at the half-time in the Boro game.”
Chelsea are looking to bounce back from their disastrous 10th-placed finish in the Premier League table last season.
Spurs were pegged back and held to a 2-2 draw by Chelsea when the two sides last met at Stamford Bridge last season.
