Pat Nevin: Why Man United can’t be ruled out of title race
Pat Nevin believes it is too early to dismiss Manchester United's Premier League title challenge
Pat Nevin insists it is too early to rule Manchester United out of the Premier League title race.
The Red Devils missed the chance to close the gap between them and Arsenal on Saturday afternoon after a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
The hosts appeared to be edging towards three points thanks to Juan Mata’s third Premier League goal of the season but Arsenal substitute Olivier Giroud levelled with less than 90 seconds remaining.
Manchester United are nine points behind current Premier League leaders Chelsea after Antonio Conte’s men were 1-0 winners against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.
However, former Chelsea and Everton midfielder Nevin is refusing to dismiss Manchester United’s title challenge after tipping Jose Mourinho’s side to become champions at the start of the season.
“At the start of the season, Manchester United were my call for the team that could sneak the league,” Nevin told Newstalk’s Off The Ball show.
“They look a good bit off the distance right now. I look at their players, there is still plenty there if you get it right.”
The Red Devils will host Slaven Bilic’s struggling West Ham United side at Old Trafford in their next Premier League fixture on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United have won one of their last five Premier League games.
