Paul Scholes reacts to Chelsea’s 5-0 win over Everton
The Manchester United legend heaps praise on Chelsea after the 5-0 win against Everton on Saturday evening
Paul Scholes hailed Chelsea’s “exhibition” football after Antonio Conte’s side were resounding 5-0 winners against Everton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
Eden Hazard made the breakthrough in the 19th minute after the Chelsea forward’s low strike crept past Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg at Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Conte’s doubled their advantage less than 60 seconds later through Marcos Alonso after the summer signing managed to get on the end of a sweeping home side move to put Everton to the sword.
Former Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa made it three in the 42nd minute after the 28-year-old’s clinical finish from Nemanja Matic’s flick-on from a Chelsea set-piece.
Hazard scored his seventh Premier League goal of the season in the 55th minute after the 2015 PFA player of the year combined with Pedro Rodriguez before curling a finish into the net.
The former Barcelona forward managed to get on the score sheet with 25 minutes remaining to net the west London side’s fifth goal at Stamford Bridge.
Former Manchester United midfielder Scholes admitted that Chelsea made sixth-placed Everton look like relegation candidates.
“Chelsea were brilliant. It was an exhibition at times,” Scholes told BT Sport.
“It looked like Chelsea were playing a team ten points adrift at the bottom at times. Everton are a decent team. They can play good football usually.
“They were great in possession. They were great winning the ball back. The passing and movement were exceptional.”
Scholes added: “Chelsea were sensational – the football was as good as you will see!”
