The Arsenal forward congratulates Andy Murray on his World Tour Finals title and world number one ranking
Alexis Sanchez was drawing inspiration from Andy Murray on Sunday night as the British tennis player won his first ATP World Tour Finals title.
The 29-year-old beat his Serbian opponent Novak Djokovic in straight sets at The O2 Arena in London to win the title and finish 2016 as the world number one.
While Murray showed character and courage in abundance to ease to a career-defining win over Djokovic in the England capital, Sanchez and his Arsenal team-mates were criticised for a tepid performance in a 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.
Jose Mourinho’s side outplayed Arsenal at Old Trafford as Juan Mata broke the deadlock in the 69th minute before Arsene Wenger’s substitute Olivier Giroud rescued a fortuitous point for the visitors with headed equaliser with less than 90 seconds of normal time remaining.
However, Sanchez, who moved to Arsenal in a £35m deal from Barcelona in 2014, was quick to congratulate world number one Murray after watching the Brit land his inspiring feat thanks to a 6-3 6-4 win in the English capital.
Sanchez posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption:
“congratulations Andy Murray 👏👏👏👏🎾”
