John Terry congratulates Michy Batshuayi on an impressive performance for Chelsea's development squad
John Terry has congratulated Michy Batshuayi on an impressive performance for Chelsea’s development squad ahead of the visit of Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this weekend.
The Belgium international was selected to feature against Southampton at the west London club’s Cobham training facility on Monday afternoon alongside Terry, Cesc Fabregas and Marco van Ginkel.
The £33m summer signing got on the score sheet twice as Batshuayi levelled twice before former Stoke City midfielder Van Ginkel netted the winner in added time.
Batshuayi has been limited to a watching brief from the substitutes’ bench for most of the 2016-17 season despite scoring three goals in his opening four games in all competitions.
While the Belgian doesn’t appear to have caught the eye of Chelsea manager Antonio Conte so far, Blues captain Terry was certainly impressed with the centre-forward’s performance on Monday afternoon.
Terry posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption:
“Good to play 70 minutes today for the U23s @chelseafc Well done @mbatshuayi ⚽️⚽️ @marcovanginkel ⚽️ and the boys”
Chelsea are in first place in the Premier League table and a point ahead of second-placed Liverpool.
