Joe Gomez was thrilled to get through 45 minutes of action as the Liverpool defender steps up return from knee injury
Joe Gomez has expressed his delight to get 45 minutes of football under his belt as the Liverpool defender steps up his return from injury.
The England Under-21 international played the second half of Liverpool’s behind-close-doors game against League Two outfit Accrington Stanley on Sunday afternoon.
Gomez hasn’t featured for the Merseyside outfit since the 2015-16 season after the left-back suffered a serious knee injury in one of Jurgen Klopp’s early training sessions at Melwood back in October 2015.
The Liverpool full-back was thought to be on the brink of a return at the start of the current campaign but Gomez suffered a setback in his rehabilitation.
However, the former Charlton Athletic defender was thrilled to get through his cameo appearance in Liverpool’s friendly at Melwood on Sunday afternoon.
Gomez posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption:
“Nice to get some minutes today… felt great to put the shirt back on #lfc”
Liverpool are sitting at the top of the Premier League table after a nine-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.
