The Liverpool goalkeeper takes to Instagram ahead of his return to action with Belgium

Simon Mignolet was looking forward to taking a break from all things Liverpool as the shot stopper arrived alongside Chelsea number one Thibaut Courtous for Belgium training.

The 28-year-old has endured a frustrating 2016-17 Premier League campaign so far after losing his first-team place to Jurgen Klopp’s summer signing Loris Karius in September.

Mignolet started Liverpool’s opening five Premier League games before the German shot stopper returned from a broken hand to take over as Klopp’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Karius earned plaudits for his performance in the Merseyside outfit’s 6-1 victory over Watford on Sunday afternoon as the Reds hoisted themselves above Chelsea and into first place in the Premier League table.

And the Liverpool number two will be hoping to get some first-team action under his belt under Belgium manager Roberto Martinez despite competition from his Chelsea rival Courtois.

Mignolet posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption:

“Good to be back with @belgianreddevils 🇧🇪🔝👊🏻”
