Ray Parlour compares Eden Hazard to Arsenal legend
Ray Parlour says Eden Hazard reminds him of Marc Overmars at Arsenal
Ray Parlour believes that Eden Hazard has a similar style of play to former Arsenal star Marc Overmars.
Hazard has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top attacking midfielders since his arrival at the club from Lille back in 2012.
The 25-year-old was named as the PFA player of the year as he helped Chelsea win the Premier League and League Cup under Jose Mourinho in the 2014-15 season.
The Belgium international endured a season to forget last term as Chelsea slumped to a 10th-placed finish in the Premier League.
However, the playmaker appears to be rediscovering his best form for the west London side this term under new boss Antonio Conte.
And former Arsenal midfielder Parlour feels that Hazard has been given a new lease of life by Conte’s tactical approach at Stamford Bridge this season.
Speaking to the Alan Brazil Up Front podcast, Parlour said: “We had a player like Hazard called Overmars. He could cause damage going forward. He scored 18 goals from the lefthand side but he couldn’t tackle. He couldn’t track back. We did his work for him.
“But if he does his work going forward, scoring goals and creating chances, we don’t mind doing the donkey work. That’s what Chelsea have done with Hazard. Kante and Matic can do the work for him. ”
