Ray Parlour names Chelsea star as league’s best ahead of Tottenham clash
Ray Parlour heaps praise on Chelsea striker Diego Costa ahead of Saturday's showdown with Spurs
Ray Parlour believes Diego Costa is the Premier League’s leading striker ahead of Chelsea’s home clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Blues forward scored his 10th goal in 12 Premier League appearances in the 2016-17 season last weekend after his first-half winner in a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.
Costa is comfortably the Premier League’s leading goal-scorer this term despite a disappointing campaign under Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink in an underwhelming defence of their title.
The Spain international netted 20 times in 26 Premier League games as Chelsea eased to the 2014-15 top-flight crown less than 12 months after his big-money move to the west London club.
Former Arsenal midfielder Parlour explained why he considers Costa to the Premier League’s best striker.
“Is Diego Costa the best striker in the league? He’s got to be. He is the main man at the moment as strikers go,” Parlour told the Alan Brazil Up Front podcast.
Costa moved to Chelsea in a £32m deal from Atletico Madrid under Mourinho in 2014 after winning La Liga.
The Blues are a point ahead of second-placed Liverpool ahead of their London derby against Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
