Rio Ferdinand can’t believe Man United didn’t sign this player
Rio Ferdinand admits he was keen to see Manchester United sign Renato Sanches in the summer
Rio Ferdinand has admitted his surprise that Manchester United did not sign Renato Sanches before his eventual transfer to Bayern Munich.
The highly-rated Portugal international was heavily linked with a transfer to United but ended up signing for Bundesliga giants Bayern back in May of this year.
His move to Bayern came amid the uncertainty about the managerial position at Old Trafford, with Louis van Gaal being sacked and replaced by Jose Mourinho later in May.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand has admitted that he was surprised that the Red Devils did not do more to try and lure the midfielder to Old Trafford.
Ferdinand is quoted as saying by The Daily Mail: “If I was a Man United scout, Renato Sanches would already be at the club.
“I’d have dragged him by his hair and said ‘let’s go’.
“Renato is a modern player: Aggressive, strong, powerful, got technique, can shoot and pass. I like him. He’s young, but takes responsibility.”
