The Red Devils took the lead in the 35th minute at Old Trafford through Wayne Rooney’s opener.

The Manchester United captain then turned provider for the second goal of the night as he expertly fed Juan Mata, who slotted home from close range.

A Brad Jones own goal in the 75th minute made it 3-0, before substitute Jesse Lingard curled home to cap Manchester United’s biggest win under Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils enjoyed more than 62 per cent possession at Old Trafford in what turned out to be a dominant win.

And Ferdinand was clearly delighted by what he saw from his former side, including the midfield partnership between Michael Carrick and Pogba.

The former Manchester United defender tweeted:

Manchester United, who drew 1-1 with Arsenal last weekend, return to Premier League action this weekend with a home clash against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.
