Rio Ferdinand: These three Tottenham players are under-performing
The Manchester United legend says Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Mousa Dembele are all underperforming
Rio Ferdinand has pinpointed Dele Alli, Mousa Dembele and Christian Eriksen as three of Tottenham Hotspur’s under-performing players.
The Lilywhites were eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday night after a 2-1 loss to Ligue 1 side Monaco in what was their third defeat of the 2016-17 campaign in Europe.
Tottenham managed to end a four-game winless run in the Premier League last weekend after Harry Kane’s double overturned West Ham’s lead to seal a 3-2 victory at White Hart Lane.
Spurs challenged champions Leicester City for the Premier League title throughout most of the 2015-16 campaign thanks to some excellent team performances.
However, former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes some of Pochettino’s key players are struggling to rediscover their best form.
“The manner in which they came from behind against West Ham should have done them the world of good. Now they have to kick on,” Ferdinand told The London Evening Standard.
“The likes of Christian Eriksen, Mousa Dembele and Dele Alli haven’t matched last season’s efforts for a variety of reasons. Kane can make the difference, but others have to step up, too.”
Tottenham are in fifth place in the Premier League table and four points behind leaders Chelsea after 12 top-flight games.
Spurs will make the trip to Chelsea in their next Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
Pochettino’s side are the only unbeaten Premier League club after 12 games in the 2016-17 campaign.
